Advocacy and system transformation: What is the evolving role of business leaders in human rights advocacy?

13:35 - 14:25
In order to see true system transformation businesses need to take a broader, more systemic view on sustainability and human rights, going beyond just their own operations. This session will examine the evolving role of business leaders in advocating for systemic change.

Our two casestudy sessions will explore how leaders can influence industry standards and collaborate with civil society to tackle the root causes of human rights challenges.

Case study one: Nestlé and Unseen – The role of business in tackling modern slavery
This discussion will explore how Nestlé has worked with Unseen to strengthen their modern slavery response, the role of business in driving legislative progress, and what meaningful corporate advocacy looks like in practice.

Case study two: Natura – Advocacy for structural and cultural change

Advocacy isn’t just about shaping standards and regulations – it’s also about driving cultural change. In this case study, Natura will share a global south perspective on how businesses can influence policy and industry standards while also working with civil society organisations to shift mindsets and practices on the ground.
