The prospects of achieving a 55% recycling rate for flexible packaging by 2035 seems challenging given the current infrastructure, collection, and sorting systems in place. Yet this target set by the PPWR is what most corporations operating in the European single market will have to refer to when making strategic decisions around packaging.
In this session, the focus is all on solutions. There is a lot of work to do to understand how harder-to-recycle plastics can fit in sustainability and circularity frameworks. We will map existing efforts and innovations in the space, assessing risks, opportunities, and alternatives in a growing market for flexibles and films.
The current challenges: The key barriers to recycling flexibles and films
The roadmap ahead: From design to infrastructure, what are the key changes required throughout the value chain?
The solutions available to improve the traceability of flexible materials through the packaging value chain
Flexibles and packaging circularity: from material efficiency to the creation of new markets and applications
