Escaping carbon tunnel vision: How leading fashion brands are integrating water and biodiversity within climate strategy

09:50 - 10:30
Climate, biodiversity and water are hugely interconnected within apparel supply chains. We’ve seen major public commitments and action on climate. But according to Planet Tracker, 90% of major fashion brands overlook water risk; and the 2024 Nature Benchmark gave an average score of just 17/100 for the industries biodiversity disclosure. Without a holistic approach, these crises risk converging.

In this session, our panellists will explore the strategic opportunities to align action. We’ll cover:

  • Defining measurable goals: How to establish effective KPIs and science-based targets for water and biodiversity.
  • Building programs from the ground up: Lessons from industry leaders on context-specific programs at the landscape and ecosystem scale.
  • Key challenges: Best practice to navigate the biggest roadblocks, such as scalability and cost, and how collaboration can help brands achieve meaningful progress.
  • Centring human impact: The consequences of water depletion and biodiversity loss are immediate and tangible. How can brands ensure a just transition that prioritizes the needs of communities affected by these issues?
